I would not recommend Dr. Patel to anyone. He is unethical and not very professional. It is very difficult to find a good dentist. After retiring and loosing my company dental benefits and signed up with my Medicare providers dental plan. It was limited to a very few HMO dentists that weren't very well rated. I teach part time at DVC and signed up for their PPO dental plan. I went to Dr. Patel and a first was pleased. After a few visits I became concerned because he started to recommend procedures that weren't necessary.

1. I needed a crown on a back tooth. He stated that it would be difficult procedure and recommended that I get a second opinion. He sent me to UCSF dental school and they agreed. He recommended another second opinion and sent me to one of his friends who also agreed that it would be difficult. I had to pay for the two second opinions. He then recommended pulling the tooth and putting in a single partial plate that would have to be taken out each night.
2. He also recommended that I get four cleanings a year because of the condition of my gums further stating that I needed deep root cleanings.
3. I went to another dentist located across the street who was “Diamond Certified”. He put in the crown without a problem. He also did not recommend 4 cleanings per year and definitely stated that deep root cleanings were not needed. I have continued to go to the new dentist. He is very professional as well as being ethical.

A word to the wise! Be very careful of Dr. Patel. He looks for ways to increase his fees and profits by recommending unnecessary procedures. He should be reported to the American Dental Association for unethical practices.
